Award for responsible alcohol retailing (ARAR) Level 1

There are several awards and certificates on the market for responsible alcohol retailing. These certificates are generally aimed at members of staff working in licensed retail premises such as, off licence premises, public house's or bars, night clubs and casino's. Ensuring your members of staff achieve a basic level of training on the licensing Act 2003 demonstrates your commitment to becoming a responsible retailer. Many new licensed premises applications will include a section on staff training and the employer's responsibility to ensure sales of alcohol or any other age restricted products is sold responsibly. In Scotland staff training for staff selling alcohol by retail is compulsory and a mandatory requirement on any premises licence where the retail sale of alcohol is made.

The qualifications on offer are as follows;

BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing (ARAR)
EDI National Certificate in Underage Sales Prevention
SCLPS Scottish Certificate for Licensed Premises Staff (SCLPS)

The BIIAB ARAR will enable candidates to;

Understand the main points of the licensing Act (2003)
Recognise their responsibilities associated with retailing alcohol
Give an understanding to duties concerning under-age sales and sales to persons who are drunk
Support the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) to retail alcohol responsibly
